Bruntwood are one of the largest property companies in the north of England with over 90 office buildings across Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Birmingham. Their buildings are home to over 1000 businesses that collectively employ around 30,000 people.
Their partnership with the University of Manchester] is part of their ambitious environmental strategy, which focuses on the long term environmental performance and management of their buildings as well as delivering short term value to their customers and the environment.
Through EcoCities’ world class international research, Bruntwood aim to compliment their knowledge of developing low carbon buildings that are resilient to extreme weather and temperature increases. They will play an active role in the project’s research, engaging their buildings, staff and customers in practical pilot programmes that will help develop and shape adaptation strategies.
In addition to their long term commitment to EcoCities, Bruntwood’s have set up a number of short term environmental initiatives that will help save their customers money and reduce their impact on the environment.
In September 2008, they introduced a free customer recycling scheme that will save their customers £1m over three years through reduced landfill tax and removing the need for stand alone recycling contracts.
They have also invested heavily in technology that provides real time energy consumption data. This will help their customers identify wasteful consumption, saving them money and reducing their impact on the environment.
